A charity drive is aiming to propel a Palestinian lullaby to the Christmas number one spot. The effort seeks to send support to communities in Gaza while also highlighting Palestinian cultural expression.
An Opportunity for Unity and an "Chart Upset"
Renowned figure Brian Eno, who contributes to the track, stated that the release called 'Lullaby' represents a opportunity to show solidarity with Palestinians this festive season. He remarked the potential for an unlikely festive coup.
“It would be incredible if that occurred, yes,” he said. “I wouldn't be completely let down if it doesn’t, holiday tracks are a category of their own.”
Resilient Spirit of Freedom and Dignity
Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who features in the reimagining of a cultural piece called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the song's resilient spirit.
“The song holds a profound significance for a lot of people,” Barghouti said. “The message is that I would rather die in dignity than exist without freedom. That is the core idea of the song; we want to live a life of dignity that we are entitled to as Palestinians.”
Production History and Contributing Musicians
The track was produced following a large-scale benefit event held in late summer. Originally intended to be done as a live recording, the performance was shelved during the concert due to the event running long.
The notable list of performers appearing on Lullaby features a range of prominent voices from the scene. All took part in the benefit event, which reportedly raised a significant sum for charitable causes.
Final Touches and Availability
Lullaby was produced by a trio of music creators. The song blends a mix of the original Arabic with freshly written English words.
The organizers behind the project have emphasized that their objective is to generate maximum funds for a dedicated fund. These resources will be channeled to initiatives supporting Palestinians through an established charity.
“We don’t have a rigid aim,” a spokesperson explained. “We aim for the maximum achievable. Of course, the greater the amount, the better. All proceeds are directed out to the people of Gaza.”
The context in the area was noted for its widespread damage, with a vast majority of property reportedly levelled or seriously harmed.
“Given that reality, a few million doesn’t make that much difference. But I think what does make a difference is first of all raising awareness for this issue and showing the human dimension of the story.”
The single 'Lullaby' is scheduled for release this Friday. Additionally, a complete film of the solidarity show will be made ready to watch on a popular streaming site from later in the month.
