The Porcine Pardon: Pig Named Six Seven Granted Clemency by Miami Dade County Mayor.

It might not have been at the equivalent scale as sparing Thanksgiving turkeys, but the county's top official conducted a presidential-style act this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a pig named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.

“This animal is guiltless. She deserves this act of mercy. She has committed zero crimes,” Levine Cava said in a speech with clear references to the sheer volume of executive clemencies issued from the start of the onset of a current administration.

“Except perhaps for eating six or seven apples per day,” she went on. “May this pig enjoy a lengthy and joyful existence away from worry.”

The gathering, simultaneously observing and challenging the local cultural practice of eating roast pork during the holidays, was founded to replicate the yearly bird sparing at the White House.

The animal, contributed by a Coral Gables firefighter, was given its name from the popular vernacular phrase of young people shouting “six-seven” – inspired by a musical verse – often without clear purpose. The trend became so pervasive that a major dictionary recently declared “6-7” its 2025 word of the year.

A New Life

Six Seven the pig is now set to enjoy its days at a countryside refuge “away from grills and cookware”, according to the event’s official press release.

“This swine clemency has become one of our favorite ways to kick off the festive period,” said Eric Castellanos, in a decidedly positive message.

“It embodies the character of Miami: joyful, multicultural, and grounded in customs that bring people together. Every time, we are honored to observe culture and compassion in a way only Miami can.”

Attendees enjoyed a meat-free selection of croquettes and Cuban coffee as they celebrated Six Seven’s big moment.
