This latest animated series, the newest animated series from Critical Role, revealed an exciting opening credits. It features the beloved cast of misfits, outcasts, and rogues fighting hard and making their mark, while also hinting at several heart-wrenching personal histories for key figures including Liam O'Brien's wizard Caleb, and Travis Willingham's orc warlock, Fjord.
All in all, the intro looks stunning. But I couldn't help feeling that something was missing in the song choice.
This sequence uses "Welcome to the Continent", a truly stellar song composed by producer and singer the talented musician. This piece from the soundtrack album of that title, the second one put out by the production company's record label their music brand. It's a wonderful nostalgic option, and I believe that devotees of the second campaign will appreciate its inclusion.
Personally, The Mighty Nein's opening fails to capture the excitement and excitement that accompanied the second campaign's live-play sessions. "Your Turn to Roll", written by musician Jason Charles Miller, became an immediate hit for me when it was first revealed in 2015, and it improved further when co-founder Sam Riegel wrote words to the melody for the animated Campaign 2 opening in the later year.
Including singing from Ashley Johnson, Laura Bailey, Travis Willingham, as well as the writer, the song was catchy and fun. Back then, I hadn't seen the follow-up series yet, but it was so infectious that I kept it on my device. This track that knows how to get you pumped before you dive into an installment of adventurous fun.
The show's intro with "the new song" fails to hit the same chords in my opinion. It's a grand composition, but based on my understanding of the group, I feel that its tone is somewhat mismatched.
Naturally, the creators has already said that the series will have a few surprises and differences from the original live sessions. An adjusted mood for its intro seems to be among these.
The Mighty Nein will be available to watch on Prime Video from November 19. If you can't wait before that, or wish to prepare to get to know the personas of the second series, the actual play are available on Spotify and YouTube.
