Paceman Atkinson Compounds the English team's Injury Concerns.

'Serious blow' for the English camp as Atkinson leaves the field with a hamstring injury.

The English seamer added to England's injury problems upon exiting the ground during Saturday's play of the fourth Ashes Test against Australia.

The right-arm seamer experienced discomfort in his hamstring after the final ball of the fourth over on Saturday.

The touring camp reported Atkinson reported "discomfort" and would spend time away from the action in order to be assessed "during the day".

The final Test in this Ashes battle in Sydney starts on Sunday, 4 January.

The English side has already lost key quicks Mark Wood to a knee injury and another paceman with an abdominal strain during this series.

Matthew Fisher was called up as injury reinforcement.

His form was underwhelming during the first two matches, managing only a handful of scalps.

He was dropped from the previous Test, then recalled for the fourth Test to fill the void.

Atkinson improved at the MCG, bagging two scalps with the ball, then making 28 with the bat among just a trio of teammates to get into double digits.

Following a brief spell late on the first day, he resumed for the second day's play and had nightwatchman taken by the wicketkeeper.

However, at the end of the fifth over, he delivered a slower ball to the batsman and promptly felt his left hamstring.

Gus Atkinson was recalled for the Melbourne match following his omission the previous Test.
