JuJutsu Kaisen: Execution is not precisely an brand-new movie. Instead, the recent movie from the JuJutsu Kaisen fantasy saga is a compilation of the show's sophomore season merged with the first two episodes of its upcoming season, which launches the Culling Games arc from the manga series. This makes Execution, which recently received a new trailer, the earliest way to watch the beginning of the upcoming season ahead of its January 2026 premiere. The movie premieres in cinemas in Japan starting November 7, and in the United States and Canada on December 5.
In the Culling Game arc, Special Grade sorcerer Yuta Okkotsu makes his entrance into the show and is tasked by jujutsu officials to eliminate his fellow student Yuji Itadori. Their highly anticipated battle occurs for the first time on the silver screen, and if the animators at the production house have an exceptional piece as episodes 40 and 41 waiting in the wings for viewers this holiday season, JuJutsu Kaisen: Execution may end up being the surprise that we've been waiting for.
"The Thunderclap sequence" from season 2 is widely regarded as one of the greatest sequences in the history of anime, in spite of the major issues in the previous year when the series first premiered. It was stated that the artists were suffering from crunch conditions to the extent, and the final version that was shown at the time was incomplete and reportedly not what the animators originally planned.
The scene involves a long-awaited battle between two strong jujutsu users, the King of Curses and the Eight-Handled Sword. It features experimental animation, superb cinematography, and intense action. A follow-up home video edition allowed the team to insert new moments to flesh out the battle. So it was plausible Execution could improve the battle even more. However, looking at the recent teaser, it's unclear if that fight has undergone further polishing. It'd be a shame if it was not, because a sequence that grand has to be seen on the cinema screen with the finest quality available.
The second installment of JuJutsu Kaisen boosted the show to become the award-winning series of 2024, and when the Thunderclap episodes were aired consecutively, it was the subject of discussion for weeks in the anime community. Viewers had heard of the issues behind the scenes, which made them appreciate what they saw even more. People eagerly awaited to see if the home release, launched in mid-March, would include new footage to the battle or to see if it was refined somewhat, and were elated to see precisely that, alongside color corrections, smoother movement, and revised visual style.
But the Blu-ray can only improve what has previously shown in the broadcast edition, whereas the film has the chance to fully realize the scene with more adjustments and freshly created footage.
As it stands, these episodes serve as the pinnacle of JuJutsu Kaisen, and should be handled with care by Mappa, especially considering the issues they underwent at the time. It's garnered the attention of series enthusiasts all over the world, and the Culling Games is a highly awaited story of the following year. If Mappa wants to kick off the year perfectly, showcase the anime's greatest sequence once again in cinemas with the ultimate presentation we've witnessed to date.
