Medvedev's varied form on the tennis tour - and struggles with his serve in particular - caused him falling of the elite rankings and eventually separating with long-term mentor his previous coach.
Presently training with Thomas Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, the tennis star has consistently progressed in the last few weeks - culminating in a tightly fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 triumph over challenger Corentin Moutet.

His counter-punching play style and recurring reactions on the playing surface had prompted commentators to question if his skill to play at the highest level was finished.
But the 29-year-old has altered his approach in the last few weeks, making an effort to advance forward and perform assertively, reinforced by an better service.
Medvedev fought back from a disadvantage in the initial set against the tricky Moutet, taking four of the final five games to gain the advantage.
Both players exchanged break points in the second set before the Frenchman, attempting for his initial professional title, took control to force a final set.
He saved four initial chances in a close final set before Medvedev won the break to 15 to secure the win.
