Over 36,000 civilians have evacuated from Sudan's Kordofan territory eastern sector of Darfur beginning Saturday, as stated by the UN's migration organization.
The key central region connecting the country's Darfur provinces and the Khartoum-Riverine region has during recent weeks become the latest battleground in the two-year civil war between the Sudanese armed forces and the militia group.
Substantial Displacement Figures
An approximated 36,825 people escaped five districts in North Kordofan region between 26 October and 31 October, according to the International Organization for Migration.
The individuals, most on foot, headed to Tawila, a town to the west of El Fasher that is currently accommodating more than 652,000 refugees.
Increased Forces Deployment
Residents of North Kordofan on Monday noted a substantial rise in both RSF and army concentration across urban and rural areas throughout the state.
Both forces are competing for control of El Obeid, the North Kordofan state capital and a important strategic and command center that joins Darfur to Khartoum.
"Today, all our forces have converged on the Bara front here," said an RSF member in a recently distributed video declaration.
Area Inhabitants Detail Safety Fears
A resident of Um Smeima, located west of El Obeid, stated that the amount of RSF vehicles had risen significantly since the group's takeover of El Fasher.
"We discontinued traveling to our farms, concerned about fighting," the resident commented.
Another civilian, who requested anonymity for protection purposes, also confirmed that "there has been a significant rise in army vehicles and weapons west and south of El Obeid" over the last fourteen days.
Global Warnings and Appeals
A senior UN official sounded warnings last week about "large-scale atrocities" and "ethnically motivated reprisals" by RSF in Bara.
The official alerted to patterns similar to those in Darfur, where RSF combatants have been accused of mass killings, sexual violence and abductions against non-Arab ethnic groups.
The spiritual head on Sunday called for an immediate ceasefire and the establishment of aid passageways in Sudan, stating that attacks on civilians and impediments to humanitarian aid "are producing unacceptable suffering."
Sudan's official envoy to Egypt on Sunday charged RSF of carrying out war crimes in El Fasher and stated that the Sudanese government would not engage with the paramilitary group.
The representative further called on the global community to categorize the group as a terrorist organisation.
